DNA Testing

Avuncular DNA Testing — Aunt/Uncle Relationship Testing

If the alleged father is unavailable for paternity testing, testing the suspected father's brothers or sisters can establish the paternity of the niece or nephew. This type of testing is called an Avuncular DNA Test, and Accurate Screens offers both personal and legal avuncular testing nationwide.

An avuncular DNA test is performed when the alleged father is deceased, unavailable, or unwilling to participate in a paternity test, and the only available relatives are the alleged father's full siblings (brothers or sisters). On average, an aunt or uncle shares approximately 25% of their DNA with their nephew or niece.

Including the mother in this test is strongly recommended, although not required, as it significantly strengthens the genetic evidence and produces more conclusive results. Generally, this test will not give results as strong as a grandparentage test, but it is still a reliable option when the alleged father's siblings are the only available relatives.

Legal Avuncular DNA Test: Legal results are court-admissible as proof of biological relationship. DNA sample collection must take place at an approved location, and we coordinate with authorized facilities near you to ensure a proper chain of custody.

Personal Avuncular DNA Test: If you need testing just for peace of mind, you can collect the DNA sample by rubbing a mouth swab on the inside of your cheek and sending it in a pre-paid envelope. Results are typically available within 5–10 business days. Please note that personal results are not court-admissible.

We serve clients throughout California — including Oakland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, and more — as well as all 50 states nationwide. We follow strict privacy protocols to ensure your DNA information is never shared or sold to any third party.
